Our History
Our club was originally chartered in the year 1912 as
Glen Garden Golf and Country Club, with land acquired
from Mr. H.H. Cobb of the O.K. Cattle Company. A nine
hole golf course with sand greens was constructed, with
another nine holes added some year or two later.
In the very early days of our club, members came by horse and buggy, or
in the evenings by use of the Cleburne interurban, alighting at Wichita
Street and walking about six blocks to the club where a board walk was
built on the east side of the club to span a creek. In the depression years,
1930 - 1936, the club came into financial difficulties which required
refinancing and reorganizing, resulting in the dissolution of the old
corporation known as Glen Garden Golf and Country Club and the creation
of a new charter for the present club, Glen Garden Golf & Country Club.

Our grounds have helped start the careers of many greats such as Byron
Nelson, Sandra Palmer, and Ben Hogan to name a few.
Clubhouse in the early 1930's
Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan started
caddying at Glen Garden in the mid
to late 1920's They could make a
dollar caddying.  At the ages of
fourteen, Byron beat Ben Hogan in
the annual caddy tournament.  They
both shot 40's on the front nine, with
par being 37.  Byron won the second
nine holes.
Byron started working in the golf
shop in 1927, for the Pro named Ted
Longworth, changing shafts and
cleaning clubs, and later mowing
greens.
Byron won the Glen Garden Club
Championship in 1930 and never
looked back.
